Hostels are probably the best known and most favorite option among backpackers. They are cheap, the quality is usually good and the biggest advantage; you can meet many other travelers there. A hostel is in many cases comparable to a hotel, but the prices are lower. Fortunately, a hostel is not that hard to find. Moreover; it is often not necessary to book them in advance as there are so many scattered throughout Vietnam. Hostels in Vietnam come in all shapes and sizes. Read our tips below!

Take a look here for great hostels in Vietnam.

Booking Hostels in Vietnam

Whether you are on the island of Phu Quoc or in a mountain village in the north of Vietnam, hostels are always present. Especially around the more famous highlights and cities in Vietnam, there will be hostels on every corner of the street. Besides hostels saving a lot of money, it also saves on endless wandering around with a backpack.

Do not be afraid that you will not find hostels in Vietnam because there is always something open. What we advise is not to immediately go for the first room that you see. Always check that you have hot water (if they promise there will be), that the sockets (electricity) are working and that the air conditioning works if you pay for it.

There are plenty of hostels available in the bigger cities like Ho Chi Minh City

Cost of Hostels in Vietnam

Hostel prices will never take up half your budget. However, the price of a hostel can vary enormously. So you almost always pay more in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City than in Danang or a village in the north. The high and low season also influence the price.

You can assume that you will pay an average of US $6 – $11 per night in Vietnam. The price is, of course, also dependent on your own wishes and your negotiating talents. If you stay more than 3 nights you can get a small discount (try asking for it!). You obviously shouldn’t have high expectations for a $6 a night hostel.

It is often not necessary to book a hostel in advance. Especially if you have no preference, there is always something to be found. If you do want to be sure of a place to sleep it is wise to book something in advance.

TIP – On Booking.com you can find innumerable options (and genuine reviews of travelers) in terms of hostels in every city or region.
