Koh Lipe is located in the south of Thailand, near the Malaysian border. In the past, it was not that well known, but nowadays more and more tourists go there. That is because of the beautiful white sandy beaches, the hills covered with jungle, and the colorful coral reefs off the coast. However, the increase in tourism also has consequences. The more atmospheric Koh Lipe used to be, the more it is now filled with hotels and resorts.
This island belongs to the Adang-Rawi Archipelago. The island is surrounded by crystal clear water and has several beautiful beaches. The beaches are so white that you really need sunglasses to explore the area. Because Koh Lipe is a National Park, you do have to pay an entrance fee to get to the island. You pay the entrance fee immediately after arrival with the speedboat.
It being a National Park means that the entire island is a protected area. This is not for nothing, because nature here is really beautiful. The same applies to the beaches of the island and the sea around Koh Lipe because they are also protected.
What to Do on Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe is a small island but there is plenty to do. Snorkeling and diving are some of the best-known activities, but also check out the things we’ve listed below.
1. Explore the Beautiful Beaches
Koh Lipe has a few beaches and these beaches are all beautiful, but the most beautiful beach is Sunrise Beach. This long beach covers the entire east coast of the island and extends all the way to the north.
The northernmost point of the beach is very photogenic: you can take beautiful holiday pictures here.
You will find bungalows, restaurants, bars, and resorts on Sunrise Beach. There are many long-tail boats in the sea, but luckily there is more than enough room for a nice swim. And do you enjoy exploring the sea with the kayak?
This is certainly possible because you can rent a kayak for a low price on Sunrise Beach.
2. Visit Walking Street
The most famous street in Koh Lipe is called Walking Street. In this street, you will find nice shops, cozy bars, and restaurants where you can eat well. It doesn’t really matter what you want to eat, because you can eat both traditional Thai and Western meals on Walking Street.
Especially in the evening, it is nice to walk here, because then it is nice and busy in the street.
How to Get to Koh Lipe
The best way to get here is by taking the speedboat from Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi, the Trang Islands or Koh Lanta. In the high season, from November to March, several speed boats leave for the beautiful island every day.
Keep in mind that it is quite expensive to travel to Koh Lipe.
You also pay an entrance fee for the National Park. It is certainly worth the money, but it is good to take into account the relatively high travel costs.
