Koh Phi Phi – 5 Reasons to Visit Phi Phi

This post was last updated on February 18th, 2020 at 01:35 pm

Koh Phi Phi is one of the most popular islands of Thailand. It has been a favorite among travelers for years, especially after the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio gained international fame. Despite the increase in tourism, it is still a beautiful island. Phi Phi is the main attraction of Thailand with its beautiful beaches, picturesque bays, and nice parties.

Do you already have Koh Phi Phi on your bucket list? If not, check out these 5 reasons why you too should go to this tropical island.

1. The Underwater World

If there’s something you can do well around Koh Phi Phi it is diving and snorkeling. It is full of diving schools here for a good reason! The coast of the island is not that spectacular, but board a boat and sail a little further on the water and you will arrive in the most beautiful areas. The most popular bays for diving and snorkeling are Toi Sai and Loh Dalam.

The best thing is, of course, to book a diving course here, but if you don’t have the time, money or desire for it, then you can of course just go snorkeling. Snorkeling gear can be rented anywhere on the island for a few dollars a day.

2. The Beautiful Beaches

The beaches of Thailand are among the most beautiful in Asia. In our opinion, you will find the most beautiful beaches in the Philippines, the Maldives, and Indonesia, but Thailand also offers a few gems. On an island like Koh Phi Phi you will find beautiful beaches; some touristy, some deserted, but almost always equipped with a cozy beach bar.

The best-known beach is of course Maya Bay Bach, known from the movie The Beach. This beach has, unfortunately, also become very touristy in recent years. Therefore, also consider Loh Dalum Bay, Ao Nui, and Phak Nam Bay. An overview of the other beaches can be found on our page about Koh Phi Phi.

3. The Things You Can Do Here

Koh Phi Phi is a paradise for people who want to do fun things. Of course, tourism runs to a large extent on beaches, diving, and snorkeling, but there is much more to do. You can, for example, go to the Phi Phi Leh national Park, take a tour in a long-tail boat or kayak around the island.

What is also fun to do is a cooking course where you learn to cook with local ingredients or shop in Tonsai; the only village on the island. Also, check out our blog with the 10 best things to do on Phi Phi island.

4. Phi Phi’s Interior Region

If you have had enough of the beach or all other activities there is, fortunately, something to discover; the interior region. The beaches are the most famous attraction here, but the interior is certainly just as beautiful. The island is a true paradise with green mountains covered with forests, waterfalls, and beautiful views.

The viewpoint is the place to go on Koh Phi Phi. It is a 20 to 40-minute walk to the viewpoint and we recommend going early because it can get quite hot in the afternoon.

5. The Delicious Thai Food

Not everyone likes it, but the Thai food here (and anywhere else in Thailand) is delicious! We always come back from Thailand with a few extra pounds because of all the delicious food. Because Koh Phi Phi attracts so many visitors, there is also a varied selection of dishes. After all, they want to be able to help everyone.

All famous Thai dishes can be found here, but there are also other dishes for those who don’t like Thai. You can think of Indian or Italian! Nevertheless, we recommend trying the local dishes because it is so delicious!
