During a trip through or vacation in the Maldives, good weather is important. After all, the weather plays a major role during your stay. Nobody wants to experience rain for three weeks, especially if you are in a tropical paradise like the Maldives. The chance of very bad weather in the Maldives is fairly small but to avoid surprises it is useful to check the best time to visit the Maldives.
Best Time to Visit the Maldives by Month
The best time to visit the Maldives is from December to April. In these months there is little wind and the sea is calmest. In these months it is best to dive and snorkel or visit local islands such as Maafushi. The sea is clearest around March and April. The climate in the Maldives is determined by two monsoon periods.
TIP – The best time to visit the Maldives is from December to April.
Best Time to Visit The Maldives by Season
The best time to visit the Maldives can be divided into three seasons. The high season, mid-season, and the low season. In general you have the best weather in the high and mid-season. The best time to visit is not only determined by the weather but also the holidays.
Peak Season
December to February
During these months you have the best weather in the Maldives. The sky is clear blue and there is little rain. Keep Christmas and New Year’s in mind because during these holidays the prices go up fast and reservation is a must.
Shoulder Season
March and April
The good weather remains until the end of April. There may be some bad weather here and there for a few days. April is also the hottest month. In the Maldives you can surf well and the surfing season starts in March and lasts until October.
Low Season
May to November
These are the months in which it rains a lot and heavy storms can occur. The prices for resorts drop enormously. Some even close down for a while. Prices in August are going up again due to holidays in Western countries.
High Season in the Maldives
The high season in the Maldives runs from December to April. During this period you have a lot of dry weather and sun. Temperatures fluctuate between 26°C and 33°C (79°F to 91°F) and the water temperature is at a comfortable 27°C (81°F).
There is also the least wind at this time of year. If you come here for windsurfing, the high season is, therefore, not the best period. Because there is so little wind, the sea is calm. In March and April you have the best view while diving and snorkeling.
Low Season in the Maldives
The low season in the Maldives runs from May to November. The weather can vary considerably during this period. You have more chance of rain and strong winds. For windsurfing enthusiasts, the low season is the best period, especially in the month of June. And although you have more chance of wind and rain, the temperature remains the same.
The temperature is also between 26°C and 33°C (79°F to 91°F) during the low season. Don’t be put off by the low season either. Rain usually means a short, heavy shower followed by a lot of sun. If you want to go to the Maldives during this period, go in September or November. In these months you have the most sun.
